Wow these are incredibly purple and look stunning!!!!
After speaking to Matt at Scramble to get the best fit (I have a 32” waist) I went for a medium and they fit perfectly. The shorts come with a fully elasticated waistband which has a standard draw string, which means they will be highly adjustable if cutting weight………..or coming back from holiday after a few to many pies if you know what I mean!
This is a great system however the draw string used has a very shiny finish this means when you are tying a knot is can slip quite easily so if you like your shorts on tight this may cause a slight problem. The velcro used is as tough as they come. These things stay in place with no problem at all.
Length wise they finish just above my knee (I am 6”2′ with quite long legs) so they are very similar to Clinch Gear and Form shorts. I like this length as it does not get in the way during standup or ground work but this is down to personal taste. If you want a slightly longer short maybe look else where if you have long legs.
Scramble short’s size guide:-
(Remember they have an elasticated waist so build that into your sizing ie Medium 34” fit me 32” great)
The shorts are made from 100% polyester. When I first felt the shorts I was quite shocked at how thin they were and was a bit worried about how they would hold up during the rigours of training eg feet getting caught being trodden on by large clumsy people you know the usual!! However I am happy to say they hold up great to even the most stressful conditions.
A huge benefit of their material is how dry it stays. During standup the shorts do not get wet from sweat at all and even after a good few hours grappling only become mildly wet but within minutes (Yes I mean minutes!!) they are bone dry again.
A few people have asked about the printing on the shorts as a lot of short companies are using screen or silk printing for their bright logos. The problem with these are after a while they crack, fade or both of these things occur which is not great. With the Scramble shorts the logos are digitally sublimated. Which means the logos are built into the fabric so no matter what you do these will not crack or fade. Which is a massive plus and other companies should take note!!
+Light & strong material that stays dry really well.
+Simple but effective enclosure system.
+Full range of motion striking or grappling.
+Perfect leg length for me.
+Quite rare so not everyone will be seen in these incredible shorts.
+Sublimated printing on the logos will last forever.
+Different colour than the norm.
-Leg length maybe to short for some tastes.
-Draw string can slip due to its shiny finish.
-Due to the Purple colour you may be called Grimace (McDonalds Reference just google it if you don’t know who Grimace is) but in our sport we are lucky that we can to hurt each other so just get them back with good combos and submissions.
Scramble are a relatively new company but have started out better than most who have been in the field for many, many years. They have made a stand against all things skull, bones and come with a clean design angle.
The shorts are great they are up there with Sprawls and Hayabusa quality wise and I love my pair so get them while you can. Be is standup, grappling or just looking good these are a revelation.
4.5 out of 5 (So close to a 5 from me)
